Hi rajesh,

Rajesh
> his kernal modification take any alarm in OS or Normal.
Please advice before that what type of precaution backup to be taken.

Well what I guess what you are worrying about is a current kernel that might get corrupted as it's obvious there is some reason you don't have confidence in this modification or maybe you are just checking as you have mentioned the keywords high_production_server.

Well on a 11.31 operating system maintains what is called as the 5th section of a manual page which typically consists of momentous information termed as a "constraint". Well now the constraint would tell you if the value is within allowed limits.

As of my knowledge there is no alram directly on an shmni tunable unless it is configured onto an SNMP trap or probably to the root mail.

Well about backups on a 11.31 operating system it should suffice to say that if you are careful enough to update or not update the configuration -- /stand/backup/vmunix -- should save you if hypothetically a problem would arise.

Regards
Ismail Azad

For 11.11, with below procedure, you can rebuild the kernel & can have kernel backup at --> /stand/backup/vmunix..

# cd /stand/backup
# /usr/lbin/sysadm/system_prep â s system
# mk_kernel â s /stand/backup/system

Thanks,
Vivek

Hi rajesh,

Vivek
> For 11.11, with below procedure, you can rebuild the kernel & can have kernel backup at --> /stand/backup/vmunix..

Well in the transition terms from let's say a 11.11 to 11.23 operating system, a major difference noted is the test kernel which is used by default by mk_kernel known as /stand/build/vmunix_test and the backup kernel being /stand/vmunix.prev. So, there are innumerous number of documents stating that the backup kernel should never be "renamed". So vivek, in this scenario you would have a /stand/vmunix.prev and a /stand/backup/vmunix?? Jus curious... :)

Regards
Ismail Azad
