on the face of it, they look like the same processor type, albeit reported differently by different versions of machinfo. They both look like Montecito 1.6GHz/24MB Dual Core systems (i.e. Itanium 9050).

It would probably be best to confirm this by running the "DF" command from the MP command menu and comparing. Here's an example from one of my systems (not a rx8640):

MP:CM> df -s

DF -s

FRU IDs:
--------
0000-System Board 0001-I/O Riser Board 0002-Display/Fan Brd
0003-Diag Board 0032-Processor 0 0033-Processor 1
0036-Processor 0 RAM 0037-Processor 1 RAM 0128-DIMM0A
0129-DIMM1A 0130-DIMM2A 0131-DIMM3A
0136-DIMM0B 0137-DIMM1B 0138-DIMM2B
0139-DIMM3B

Select FRU ID: 32
32

FRU NAME: Processor 0 ID:0032

PROCESSOR DATA
S-spec/QDF: QPBE
Sample/Prod: 00

CORE DATA
Arch Revision : 00
Core Family : 20
Core Model : 00
Core Stepping : 05
Max Core Frequency : 1600 MHZ
Max SysBus Frequency : 267 MHZ
Core Voltage : 1100 mV
Core Voltage Tolerance,High : 32 mV
Core Voltage Tolerance,Low : 96 mV

CACHE DATA
Cache Size : 18 MB

PACKAGE DATA
Package Revision : NE Substrate Revision: 01

PROC PART NUMBER DATA
Part Number : 80549KE
Electronic Signature : 0002CAFD7BABAE6F

THERMAL REF DATA
Upper Temp Ref : 90 C
Calibr Offset : 17 C

FEATURES DATA
IA-32 Proc Core Feature Flags: FFFB8743
IA-64 Proc Core Feature Flags: 1B81806300000000
Package Feature Flags : 3F000000
Devices on TAP Chain : 2

-> Command successful.

HTH

Duncan
