I have a further question but it's about attaching our new Dat72 tape drive. At the back of the server there is a terminator (??) attached (covering) a slot which is labeled:

SLOT1 > LAN/SCSI CORE IO

Question is, can I remove this terminator and use it to directly connect the tape? The drive came with a VHD connection but we don't have one of those cards.

The SLOT 1 has a slot for a network connection but we are using the other LAN connection on the machine.

What do you think?

Adrian,
I am only aware of D2XX, I know they are externally identical (size etc)
But for the rest...
Since I dont know how your other disks are connected it will be difficult for me to say but I believe that looking at it (I cant, my office is not where the boxes are installed... (4 Km from here))
I am sure you have a cd drive in the box, so look where it is connected, if it end to the board you mention you can use it because you should have a slot for removable devices, that would be the first one you see from the top
then FW-SCSI2 slots for your disks

The machine has a DVD drive which is internal. I know it has 2 LAN cards. We are already using one of those. The SLOT 1 I'm talking about has the label LAN/SCI (Core IO). I'm assuming this is a free SCI or LAN slot depending on our needs. It has a terminator attached to it. So if I remove this terminator, I should be able to attach the tape drive right?

Figure out about to connect to same place where the media is connected.
At the rear end, where you say terminator is there any path and type of connector written. You have to figure that out to see if it's free..

Thanks
Prashant

Victor,

In SLOT2 (CONSOLE TOC GSP RESET)

There is a HD (not VHD) SCSI connection. It has three other connections hanging off it:

one marked console
one maked power
one maked ups

The one marked console has the connection that connects the console. The keyboard is actually attached behind the console itself if my memory serves me correctly.

Machine Info:

Serial Number: USE44105M7
Base Product (Current): A6797B
Processor Product (Current): A6805B
Model: rp5430 750Mhz
OS: HP-UX 11.11
RAM: 2GB
Disks: 36GB x 4

Any more suggestions? I just want to know if I can remove what looks like a terminator from SLOT 1 (LAN/SCSI) and connect the tape drive directly there.

How do I go about knowing if to do that?
