In /etc/rc.config.d there is a file named savecrash(11.0) or savecore (10.20). In this file you can specify where the crash directory is as well as turning the savecrash flag on or off.

As for you second question, it depends. It should be plenty as it doesn't require much space anymore for a dump.

Hope this helps.

Chris

All

I was wondering how to ensure that all of my systems are setup to save crash and dump information when it occurs. I was also wondering if there was a way to specify that all core files are sent to a specific filesystem.

We have created on all systems a /var/adm/crash area that is 5% larger than the amt of physical memory we have installed on each system. Is this a good rule of thumb or a'm I in need of increasing these?.

Thanks in advance.
Hi Frank,

I am sure you have modified your /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash file and also configured your dump device enough to take the dump.

To get a good picture of your dump size, you can do a crashconf -v

Get the Total pages included in the dump and multiply with 4 (the page size) to find how much it is going to dump.

-Sri
