    <description>DO you mean i should have tar write to end of tape and then rewind it and fbackup?&lt;BR /&gt;I will try mediainit too and will let you know&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;any clue why fbackup would behave this way.&lt;BR /&gt;my hp-ux 11 i is sepetmber 2003 release.but not patched later on&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;thanks&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>I am trying to do a fbackup of  afilesystem with DD2 tape drive( python DDS2) &lt;BR /&gt;but it gives me an error as follows&lt;BR /&gt;The interesting thing is tar and cpio works perfectly with the same tape and tape drive&lt;BR /&gt;only fbackup gives error&lt;BR /&gt;fbackup syntax is okie and I tried backup from within SAM as well.I tried different DDS2 tapes.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;session began on Mon jan 3&lt;BR /&gt;writing volume to output file /dev/rmt/c2t4d0BEST&lt;BR /&gt;write error on an FSM in the ANSII label&lt;BR /&gt;write error at beginning of volume&lt;BR /&gt;enter ctrlY ctrl E ctrl O... when volume is ready on /dev/rmt/c2t4d0BEST</description>

      <description>Take a tar backup on tape. and ten fbackup on it. also you may try doing a mediainit on the tape and try fbackup afterwards.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Anil</description>

      <description>further to Sanjay's answer&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;thanks that looks like the issue.&lt;BR /&gt;but my drive is DDS2 and not DLT.&lt;BR /&gt;So for DDS what would be the device specifications to be used in mksf&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and the driver used is I believe is "stape2 "&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>I tried the steps in the tech doc&lt;BR /&gt;but with the custom device created with mksf,even tar doesnt work.it gives device not found error.&lt;BR /&gt;the only device file which seems to work is density "BEST"&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;infact the drive is DDS1-archive python A28454&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I tried to make device with mksf with density DDS1 but that wont work either&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;any furhter clue?</description>

      <description>I will get you the ioscan entry tomorrow as I dont have access to server rightnow .have the rmt entry written down so here it is .&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;/dev/rmt has c2t4d0BEST 205(major)  0x024000 ( minor)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;205 belongs to stape driver&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;ibelieve hardware is configured okie.issue is fbackup interfacing with stape driver.&lt;BR /&gt;tar and cpio and pax runs fine.&lt;BR /&gt;i tried with several DDS1 60m tape catridges&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;thanks for your time&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
