Hi,
ux 11.11v1 ....
Lately I have found that when I try to use a pasword that has a # symbol in it, I am unable to login. As soon as the # symbol is changed I am able to login. Is there something new about the way ux 11.11v1 works with password characters.

I have converted to trusted system Oct 2004 and been using this password with no problems. It has since expired and now I need to reinstate this same password as a non-expiry password, but am unable to do so. I am sure it is to with the # symbol, as soon as i change it, I can login. And also the fact that I have tried to create a password with the # sign for another user id ( a normal expiring password ) with the same logging in problems. 'Login incorrect'

anyone, any ideas??
thanks.
Maria

See Bill Hassell's response in this thread:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=46691

This is a very common issue with passwords. The best bet is to just NOT use a # or a @ in your passwords.

Hi Maria,

As Patricks spells out there are some speciall chars to be avoided & the 2 he lats out are at the top of that list.
It's because they are commonly used as "quit", "interrupt" or "kill" signals by many terminal definitions.
The following are fairly safe
! $ ( ) _ - + = .
These can be problematic in scripts - but usually are benign in direct logins
[ { ] } ~ ' ` : ; < > " * & %

HTH,
Jeff

If you use \# when you type in the password it will work. But listen to the lettuces and don't use a # in your passwords.
