    <description>&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Why do you have this format in /etc/syslog.conf ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;*.alert /dev/console&amp;gt;/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;it should read &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;*.alert /dev/console&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;THe next line &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;*.alert root&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;will EMAIL root with alerts any ways.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Fix /etc/syslog, then execute this:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;kill `cat /var/run/syslog.pid`&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Then login and see if it is still happening.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;live free or die&lt;BR /&gt;harry d brown jr&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Hi Friends,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;whenever I login to my server it shows the syslog error message as follows&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;syslog: Pid 8668. Failed to open Info Log file &amp;lt;&amp;gt;. Err=&lt;NO such="" file="" or="" directory=""&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Apr  6 16:00:01 (Server Name) syslog: Pid 8668.  Program &amp;lt;&amp;gt; Failed to open Error Log file &amp;lt;&amp;gt;. Err=&lt;NO such="" file="" or="" directory=""&gt;.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and this message gets repeated in between.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks in Advance&lt;BR /&gt;Abhijit Panse&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/NO&gt;&lt;/NO&gt;</description>

      <description>can you post your /etc/syslog.conf file? Also check the date it was last modified. Check the path names in syslog.conf to make sure they are correct.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Also, what method are you using to login with (telnet, rexec, rlogin, ...) ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;live free or die&lt;BR /&gt;harry d brown jr</description>

      <description>Abhijit,&lt;BR /&gt;can you check if you are trying to run a program from your login profile.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Normally the "No such file or directory" message means you are trying to write to and read from a non-existent file/directory.&lt;BR /&gt;Regards</description>
