      <description>Your system with a single cpu and 2GB of memory is quite upto par as I was suspicious of not being in that shape. Your patch levels are current enought to warrant a "Not a patch problem" &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Under these circumstances, only thing that I can think of is a lousy programming practices with java. Most likely cause, developers' code not cleaining up after they are done. I am sorry that I am not a java expert but I have had my fair share of developers who did unimaginable things to the servers I manage that I still am not able to comprehend. If there is a non-off-the-shelf piece of java code running on this system, I'd strongly suggest talking to the developer(s) of the code. By this, I do not mean the java code delivered with oracle or any other well known vendor as long as they are not the latest cutting edge version of the software.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Good luck.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;PS. On another note, how's the cpu utilization looking ? Is it hogged up 100% or close all the time ?</description>

      <description>Out of memory almost never means there is not enough RAM. Most often it means that the program(s) are not allowed to obtain additional memory. There are two common limits on local memory: ulimit -d and maxdsiz and maxdsiz_64. ulimit -d is not set in standard HP-UX installs, so just check with ulimit -d or -a. The second limit is maxdsiz. Until recently, it was set to 64megs (way too low for most big apps). It now comes set to a couple of hundred megs - which may still be too small. I would set maxdsiz to 1700megs and maxdsiz_64 to 4000megs. Make sure that maxdsiz_64 is larger than maxdsiz. You have plenty of swap so this should get things working.</description>

      <description>Other than dbc_max_pct being way too high (change from 50 to 20), all looks reasonable although the value for nproc may be too high (4096). Run sar -v 1 when the system is really busy. If you're only using 20% or less for the proc column, you can reduce nproc (and thus, nfile) to get back some more RAM.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt;2Gb for Oracle plus JavaJunk and other tools is really low. Run vmstat when the system seems really slow and look at the po column. 1-digit (0-9) is OK, 2 digits (10-99) you need to plan for more RAM, 3 digits or more (100-999999) you are crippling the applications by forcing them to page (swap) out.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt;The process (PID=2386) needs to be identified and the programmer brought in to identify the resources (RAM, CPU time) that it needs. Then point the programmer to the memory management white papers for HP-UX talking about 32bit versus 63bit.</description>
