I'd hope there is just some driver needed that is not in Your current kernel. Unfortunately (for me :) I don't have the card so I can't tell for sure.

Look through the 'drivers' menu in SAM - is there anything fitting?
Otherwise, look into the manuals ;)

Is there a deliberate dead slot on the 3410 -may not be -just a thought?

Are there any further patches available?
Have you tried forcing the driver onto the hardware path with ioscan?
Thanks for all replies. I have already tried to force-bind the ciss driver to the card, using: "ioscan -M ciss -H 0/3/1/0" which binds the driver. The card still shows "UNCLAIMED" and "UNKNOWN" status, and refuses to get configured, i.e. devicefiles created etc. The rp3410 should be supported as per HP's Product Bulletin, and the card is seen, so the slot used (0/3/1/0) seems to be operational. I can also see the card off-line from ODE under ISL.
Still need help.
Hi again, adn thanks for your efforts and help. I would like to state again that the A7143A card is installed in a rp3410 (supported) at address 0/3/1/0 (which is slot 2 in the PCI-X card cage, also supported). I have the software downloaded, and installed from software.hp.com. I also have the driver: ciss in the running kernel. Latest HWE patches and it is STILL not working. The card is seen as "Unclaimed" and "Unknown" through ioscan and no devicefile is created. It has bound the driver, ciss, to the card and been given an instance number (2) so I would expect a devicefile: /dev/ciss2 being created but not as long as the card is "Unclaimed".
Still need help.
Ok, good You checked on 'dead slot' issues, I also got suspicious of that ;)

Another thing that came to my mind: This card is a relabeled Proliant SmartArray adapter, but maybe it doesn't just get relabeled but also changed in the pci id strings. You could try to verify the serial number with HP.

Thanks Florian, and the rest of you that has answered. I will check the serial numbers. Otherwise I will consider the card "DOA" and hope that a replacement card will fix the issue, unless someone has another hint to what might be the problem.
