HI,

I get this messege in my syslog file.
Wat does it mean ?

Is it bad?

773 May 8 14:28:33 vandra17 bootpd[2691]: reading "/etc/bootptab"
774 May 8 14:28:33 vandra17 bootpd[2691]: read 1 entries from "/etc/bootptab"
775 May 8 14:28:33 vandra17 bootpd[2691]: reading "/etc/dhcpdeny"
776 May 8 14:28:33 vandra17 bootpd[2691]: error opening "/etc/dhcpdeny": No such file or directory

You have bootp daemon running on the system and obviously it's misconfigured. Do you need it?
Stop it, there must be a script in /sbin/init.d and configure it not to start on the next reboot.

Hi,

It's not an error. It's just the system reporting that it can't find the dhcpdeny file when trying to process a request from the bootp server.

You can stop the errors by creating an empty file using

touch /etc/dhcpdeny
chmod 644 /etc/dhcpdeny
