I have an A Class server that was running HP 10.2 and is 32 bit. The previous Admin installed HP 11 but the system is still 32 bit. Does anyone know how to upgrade this system to be 64 bit?

At 11.0/11.11 the A400/A500 are 64 bit only.
The A180 is 32 bit only.

getconf KERNEL_BITS

The above command will give you the info on what 'bits' you're running on.

Regards,
Eric

Hi David,

Depends on just *which* A-class it is

A180 32-bit only
A400 32/64 bit
A500 32/64 bit

I have a feeling that it's an A-180 which was the last 32-bit server HP built.

HTH,
Jeff

It depends upon the particular A-Class you are running.

Run this command:
getconf HW_CPU_SUPP_BITS

If it reports 32/64 then you can upgrade to a 64-bit version otherwise you are stuck.
No joy. An A180C is simply an A180 with cache.

Guys,

Are we sure the A400/A500 are capable of a 32 bit install? The install guides for both 11.0 and 11.11 show that those systems are 64 bit only. Perhaps the documentation is wrong?

David,

Here's the list of supported systems from the Dec. 04 Install guide for 11.0.

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5990-6721/ch01s08.html#bgedfjhb

The A180 shows as 32 bit only.

Regards,
Eric
