O Wise ones,

How long does it usually take to have the system save a crash dump at bootup sequence?

Our system a model 9000/800/N4000-55 has 8GB of mem.

It's busy for 30 minutes and I'm running out of fingernails. :)

Kind regards, John

The answer is it depends. It depends on what is compression that you have enabled for it. (/etc/rc.config.d/crashconf & savecrash), The size of the dump image.

You can view the the size of it with crashconf -v

Anil

See if you can borrow someone else's fingernails. I would give it up to an hour and if it's not done then, I would manually power cycle it - even earlier if you're not going to do anything with the dump file.

Pete

It depends... But if you don't want to save it then you can press esc key I guess. I would wait till it finishes dumping.

-USA..

Hi,

I really don't think it is possible to count a time average to save dump, it is not important the model. RAC already provided very good hints about what it can depend from.
Maybe someone can give you his experience, I never thought to take time to save dump.

Best regards,
Fabio
