LDAP 4.0 client

Had a problem with ldapsearch 3.3 on hpux 11i

I had the bright idea, why not install a newer ldap client therefore a new ldapsearch command.

So I downloaded and installed the lateset 4.00.2 ldap client from software.hp.com

Now when I run ldapsearch, I get this error output:

ldapsearch: this program requires Netscape Communications Corp.'s LDAP
library version 5.10 or greater; running with
mozilla.org's version 5.00.

I ran a few Google searches and guessed incorrectly that a component of the Netscape LDAP server was required.

I installed the whole thing but still get the error.

I'm stumped. Why did SD/UX let me install the ldap client without a required pre-requisite?

More important, how can I get the LDAP client ldapsearch command to work.

If you can figure uot what libraries old version was using, you may get it to work.

Check if you have correct library path and all required libraries. i agree that SD-US should have given error/warning about it.

Maybe not a big help but who knows...
Version 4.00 runs fine here without any additional filesets.
I'll try the new version on a test host and post results later.

Just a guess ... are you executing the correct binary?

ldapsearch is found in /opt/ldapux/bin when LDAP client is installed, but also in /var/opt/netscape/... when Netscape directory server is installed.

ldapsearch from /opt/ldapux/bin/ldapsearch runs fine.
OS is HP-UX 11.11. Patchlevel May 2005.

I hope your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable is not updated.

Forgot to mention:
No additional/unusual changes in environment.
PATH and MANPATH are set from /etc/PATH and /etc/MANPATH.

/opt/ldapux/bin is not in my /etc/PATH

No SHLIB_PATH set.
