Swinstall on old 10.20 700 system

I hope someone remembers this stuff.

I just did a new install of 10.20 on a 735 server from tape and am trying to install some other packages but for some reason when I do a swinstall it will not let me select the local root as the target.

It gives me this error

"qmidhp03:/": the operation you have attempted is only allowed on
target machines which have HP OpenView Software Distributor
installed. To perform this operation, first run the HP OpenView
Software distributor pushAgent(1m).

I am trying to install on the local machine and swagentd is running and I used swreg to register / on the local machine as a target.

Does anyone remember a problem like this or know of something I am not doing correctly.

It's an issue of hostname resolution.

Check to ensure you have an entry for localhost in /etc/hosts.

You may need to move /etc/resolv.conf to /etc/resolv.bak while you do your swinstall and then move it back and resolve your issues later.

Thanks Kent, I figured it had something to do with the hostname but had not thought of removing my resolve.conf file out of the way to try it.

I also had to restart the swagentd but the install seems to be working well

Thanks Devner, I need to find out what is going wrong with my DNS resolution.
