Hello,

I would like to take fbackup on system a and i would like to restore few oracle instance related files on system b. I have created a graph file by putting i for all the required files.

What's the command to use at system b? i would like to restore in a particular directory "/X" with retaining file ownership and w/o absolute path.

Hi,

It is easy to start a frecover through sam

Backup and recovery
Interactive backup and recovery

Menu action, frecover files or directories.
Here you can choose to use another location

I am trying to recover using sam, but after restoring 2 files it's not going ahead.. that's what i am wondering and want to use command level.

I am not getting any error and also SAM window is not coming out also..

howmuch it takes genreally.. just for 2 KB it's taking lot of time.. we have DLT4000 drives on both the servers and with the same 10.20 OS

Is the tape optional positioning during the wait time, do you change a capacity change with 'bdf' during restore

From command line

cd /x
frecover -x -F -i /filesa -f /dev/rmt/0m

Hi Madhu ,

Check this :
# cd /desired_dir
# frecover -f /dev/rmt/0m -i /dir/file -xvF

-x Restores files and directories relative to the current working directory.
-F recover files not directories.

for example /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log recovered from tape and you are in /opt/mydir/ the result would be /opt/mydir/syslog.log .

I am working remotely.. so could not be able to see drive status and the file is not getting updated while restore.

will it take around 30 min to restore a single file?

It looks like my SAM backup is working fine.. w/o any verbose action for long time, i thought it was hanging.. but suddenly after 30-45 min.. it has restoreed few files..

Madhu,

Keep in mind that tape is a serial device. If you are trying to restore a couple of files from a full system backup, it could take a while. The files you are looking for could be anywhere on the tape.

Let's just assume that the files you wish to restore are near the beginning of the tape. When you execute frecover, the files will be restored, but frecover will keep running, appearing to be hung. What's really going on is that frecover is simply reading to the end of the tape. Thus, if you have a LOT of files on the tape, it could take a while.
