HP-UX installation

Dear Frineds

We are having HP 9000 Series L class server with 4GB RAM, 2 X 8GB internal Disks and storage of 24GB this is 2 node cluster setup.

Now, our requirment is as follows:-

1) Releaseing the cluster setup and make use of one node as standalone server with storage ie 24GB.

2) We would like to install HPUX 11.11 on the internal HDD and Oracle 9i Database software also.

3) Entire 24GB of Storage for
/data , /index , /arch, /dumps

So how would we go about creating the volumes for the same with optimum use of space (8GB and 24GB).

Also we would like to know installation steps and also while installing the OS is it that / , /usr, /tmp,/bin,/var, etc are created on there own and space allocated accordingly.
How to define swap space.

Pl help me out as I am doing this activity for the first time.

PLease refer the MC/serviceguard manual and go ahead with installation. You need to modify /etc/cmcluster/cmclconf.ascii file and package ascii files as well.
Then you can build the binary file of cluster using cmapplyconf.

2) We would like to install HPUX 11.11 on the internal HDD and Oracle 9i Database software also.

For HPUX you need to reserve atleast 4 GB of space and 3 GB for Oracle 9i binaries(Approx. values)
More would be better depending on availability.

3) Entire 24GB of Storage for
/data , /index , /arch, /dumps

This entirely depends on your application and database size, how frequently log file are created and their sizes etc.
We had 70 GB reserved for database.

I would suggest you to study your own requirements first and then decide about sizes. You can always extend the LV in future and hence the filesystems.
