If you DR hardware is stuff that is 2 years old or newer, then it definitely WILL NOT run HP-UX 10.20. This is something you definitely need to look into NOW. This is not something you want to be stressing over during a DR test.
Hello all - I am familiar with taking Ignite backups and interactive rebuilds (from tape) of VG00. I'll shortly need to take DR images of 10.20, 11.00 and 11.11 servers, I have exposure to 11.11 rebuilds and they worked ok (from ignite/UX 6.1.44 onwards).

The present live machines will be ignited then tape images networked/couriered to new location then rebuilt on to brand new kit, of differing hardware type.

I have used the "Clone to different hardware" before from 4440 to 3440 and that worked fine on 11.11 (using 6.1.44 revision for ignite/UX)

The business will not buy into having O/S upgrades as the apps they run are not certified to run on later revs of OS.

Are there any known "holes" to look out for here when using old O/S (ie 10.20) onto new kit, what do you consider to be the biggest risks with a multi OS revision estate ?

Cheers, Ian

What type of new hardware are you installing onto?

You are severely limited as to the hardware you can install HP-UX 10.20 on. The absolute latest that I know of are the A180 and K580. Any of the newer A's (A400/500), L's, N's, rpXXXX will NOT work with 10.20.

You have a bit more flexibility with 11.0, though you must still be careful as 11.0 is not supported on the absolute latest hardware.

Elderly servers are Servers are D370 + K580's though I don't know of replacement h/w yet, needless to say I't won't be anything more than 2 years old, and tankfully only 5% of all servers being DR'd are stuck on 10.20.

If forced into u/g then, then I'll have to take that to the business and discuss, but that's no problem.

D370 + K580 will run 10.20

You will run into a problem at some point keeping them running.

User applications for 10.20 are a problem that keeps things running because the users don't want to change their code or deal with an upgrade.

At some point it becomes tough cookies, the users need to understand that running on unsupoorted hardware on an unsupported OS is a bad thing.

There are plenty of old K and D class machines around. They can be found occiasionally on ebay.

SEP

Thankyou all for your good comments.

Looks like I'll have to make approaches to move up the O/S revision

Many thanks, I'll be back on the forum shortly as a result of your good responses.

Cheers, Ian.
