Hi,
I have dual proc rp3440. I recently seem to have trouble running SAM on it. When I run SAM, first of all it takes a log time to load up till the first screen, subsequent screens sometime open, or sometime dont even open up. It just stays blinking for a really long time. I checked my system performance, nothing seems out of the ordinary though, cna anyone tell me if restarting the SAM daemon would help in this case, what else could i possibly check?

Cheers,
Sid

Hi Sid,

First thing to check is your /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf files. Make sure all the entries are valid and upto date.

Also, check for recent "sam" patches at ITRC patch database.

-Arun

Hi,

I would check the sam log using
# samlog_viewer -t -n -o <FILE>

Check for any error messages in syslog, dmesg
Check the OS patch status of the system and update it to the latest.
</FILE>

Hi,

You could run sam in text-only mode or GUI mode under X11.

Perhaps the text-only mode in the telnet session is faster?

Regards,
Bob

what is there in /etc/hosts file? Just put localhost entry with 127.0.0.1 and interface ip-address and hostname there.

May be a problem name lookup only.

--
Muthu

Disc space could slow SAM down if it can't write to the log. Try bdf -il

Mark Syder (like the drink but spelt different)
