      <description>When logged in as root &amp;amp; i su - to any user I always get ther prompt for a password.  I've checked the profile of root all is ok.  How can I stop the password authentification from appearing?</description>

      <description>Hi Jamie:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Perhaps you logged in as 'root', then did 'su someuser'.  At this point, your prompt would remain that of 'root'.  &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Hence, you might mistakenly think that you *are* root.  Another 'su' will prompt you for the user's password, since you are not 'root'.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Perhaps you even did:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# who am i&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;...but compare that to:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# whoami&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I prefer 'id' so I don't have to remember the subtle difference.
