When doing a new installation of an OS, some patches need to be installed for the system to be strong and stable, how do I know which are those patches from the hugh list of patches that I have for example hp-ux 11.11?

Jaime.

Your best bet is to do 2 things:

1) Install all the latest patch bundles from HP, which are available here:

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/releaseIndexPage.do?BC=main|

2) Run a custom patch analysis of your system to get cought up where the twice yearly bundles leave off.

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/assessSystemsPage.do?BC=main|
Hi Jaime:

In addition to using the standard patch bundles as Patrick suggests, make sure that you download and install the latest Online Diagnostic and Support Tools, too.

http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B6191AAE

Regards!

...JRF...

Shalom Jaime,

I suggest the following:

The latest bi-annual patch set for 11.11, that would be June of 2006. The OS is mature and the patchset is stable.

The Bundle for the OS, the latest being March of 2006.

Hardware Enablement, the latest also being June of 2006.

run security_patch_check which is delivered as a patch or as part of Bastille. Install needed patch sets.

Do a patch assessment on the itrc website.

Install those patches you need spefically for applications like Oracle.

Visit HP Technology Forum 2006 in Houston Texas, where someone I see in the mirror every day is giving a class on patching.

SEP
