K210 model problem - fixing a scsi disk

Hi,

We are faacing problem in connecting a scsi disk to a K210 hp server. After connecting this disk to the scsi port the system doesn't boot at all. I have checked for scsi ids ..they are not conflicting.

Any soln?

Hi,

You need to post details: what kind of scsi chain (FW, UW, SE, Diff), what else is on the scsi chain, are they internal or external devices or both, is the new disk internal or external, did you have to change any scsi ids.

This sounds like a simple wiring problem. Ensure that the SCSI chain is terminated properly at both ends, and that power is getting to everything.

You didn't mention if the drives were spinning, or if their ready lights were on.

Here's a tricky one: make sure that they are compatible, and that you're not hooking up a SCSI differential to a SCSI II or somesuch. They may have compatible connector, but one of those (I forget which) uses a 20 volt signal, and the other a 5 volt signal. Check the mfr's website to BE SURE that these are compatible.

Hi Shripad,

One of the SCSI interface is nothing but an extension to the internal SCSI bus. If you are connecting the SCSI disk to this interface, you need to set the SCSI to a different id than that of the internal disks.

And after connecting the disk with proper termination, do not boot the OS first. Stop the boot at the boot admin prompt and do a search for the disks and see if this disk is recognized.

System not recognizing the disks mean improper termination or conflicting SCSI ids.

The 'scsi' port? Be careful the port is not labeled FWD or Fast Wide Differential. If it is, this is a special (hint: hard to find today) SCSI standard that only one type of disk can use: High Voltage Fast Wide Differential or HV-FWD. Connecting any other type of disk to this bus will render all the devices inoperable.
