Is anyone else experiencing problems downloading packages from http://software.hp.com depots? I am trying to update my installation of Apache with PHP and MySQL support and I keep getting nothing back from the HP provided link.

I need the HPUXWSATW217 package (HP-UX Apache-based Web Server v.2.17 powered by Apache, Tomcat, Webmin) since my IT Security department want us updated to PHP 5.2.0. This is for a rp2470 running 11.11. I know I can download the software, configure and install it, but that will require a great deal more time than I have right now, and I greatly prefer to go with the bundle HP provides.

I tried installing the package with IPv6 siupport, but it's php keeps looking for a /CLO/BUILD_ENV/usr/lib/librt.2 library and dumping core on me.

I would look kindly on any suggestions, but it's starting to look like the solution might be to "just wait".

One reason I am posting here is that I know the HP personnel read the forums and possibly some one could point out the missing files to the right folks? I am not certain that the HP Web's error logs will contain anything, since I never receive an error, just blank pages.

<RANT on="">
Apologies to the fine folks at HP, but my frustration is compounded by the lack of a response link from HP. All the emails I receive from them say is to "Please check the Customer Service section of the store you purchased from for assistance." I would love to, but software.hp.com does not have a "Customer Service" section posted to it.
<RANT off=""></RANT></RANT>

Shalom,

From time to time this happens. Sometimes its HP, somtimes its an ISP, sometimes its a problem at the site thats you run.

There is a feedback section on most HP websites.

If you have a support agreement and this is critical, I suggest logging a support call.

Even if you don't have an agreement this is worth reporting to 1-800-633-3600. HP's service in my far from humble opinion is excellent and if they have a network problem, they'd want to know this.

SEP

It looks like things are working again, at least for me.

BTW, do you have a support contract? Could you 'officially' complain? Maybe that's what you mean in the rant, you already have. If it bugged me that much, I would have escalated the call until I talked to someone who had some power to do something about it. (But it didn't really bug me all that much today...)

Anyway, if enough people offically complain about it, they will fix the underlying problem.

John

My thanks to both SEP and John for the replies. John, I tried the download again just now and, yes, it is working again. I guess I just need to learn more patience, but yesterday was a long frustrating day and I had been trying the download at various times during the day with the same result. Next time I ll wait at least a full day (or at least get a decent night's sleep) before posting or raising the point with the response center.

I am supposed to have a support contract, but thanks to my purchasing contract it is currently in the lapsed state. They are working on it, but I thought I d at least ask on the forums to see it was just me or a general problem with HP s website.

SEP: I do have to agree with you in that HP does have world-class service and most of the folks I have talked to there want to help as much as they possibly can, and tend to go the extra 5 miles to do so. I guess I have just become so used to this quality of service that I was dumbfounded that the link did not work. So please discount the rant and put it down to ill-advised posting on my part. I offer my apologies to everyone at HP.

Dennis:

The problem I was having was the the file seemed to not be availble from the server. Once it was, I closed the thread.

I also discovered the /CLO/BUILD_ENV problem with the package as downloaded. I worked around that one by creating a symbolic link /CLO/BUILD_ENV which pointed directly to /. This allowed PHP to operate.

Thanks for the answer, and if I could I would allocate you points, but the thread's been closed already. Sorry about that.

>I also discovered the /CLO/BUILD_ENV problem with the package as downloaded. I worked around that one by creating a symbolic link /CLO/BUILD_ENV which pointed directly to /. This allowed PHP to operate.

As I said, you shouldn't have to have that link. Either something should set SHLIB_PATH or +b must be set. So if you can tell me where you downloaded this package AND the name of the executable that got that error, maybe I can do something to get it fixed.

Sorry, Dennis, I should have read more carefully.

I downloaded the package "HP-UX Apache-based Web Server v.2.17 powered by Apache, Tomcat, Webmin", product number HPUXWSATW217. The executable I received the error on was /opt/hpws/apache/php/bin/php with a command line of:

/opt/hpws/apache/php/bin/php -v

simply to get the version of the executable. This came back with an "Unable to find library /CLO/BUILD_ENV/usr/lib/librt2.sl (or something like that, it has been a couple of days now). I did try setting SHLIB_PATH in my shell and that did not work.

I agree with you that the link should not be needed, nor is it desirable. It's a kludge, but it allowed me to proceed, pending a update to the released package.
