    <description>Best guess: Notice that you used the norewind device. It is not clear that you started at the beginning of the tape or somewhere in the middle for the original backup. You probably need to use the mt command to position the tape to the desired starting point. This is why it is not always smart to put more than one backup image on a tape. It is extremely easy to "get lost" on a tape or (worse) to overwrite a valueable backup.</description>

      <description>Hi All,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I am copying file and its copying fine uwing tar. While retriving its giving error, this is a new drive on a new server.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0mn /home/*&lt;BR /&gt;...&lt;BR /&gt;...&lt;BR /&gt;Fine copied all.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0mn&lt;BR /&gt;Tar: blocksize=0; broken pipe?&lt;BR /&gt;#&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;What is worng, whats the problem? &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks,&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>You created the archive using the no-rewind device so you're trying to read the index while the tape is positioned after the archive. Rewind the tape first:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rewind&lt;BR /&gt;tar tvf /dev/rmt/0m&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You should get your listing.</description>
