Hi Gary,

I'm afraid you have no other option then a reboot.

Title: non-existent hardware is showing unclaimed and unknown in ioscan
Document ID: UKRNBKBRC00010467

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000079994509

Regards,
Robert-Jan

I'm needing to cleanup my ioscan listing of some NO_HW entries that are there after I removed some disks from the system last week. It is a production system, I can probably get a reboot window but it will be several days from now.

Here's what I've tried:
rmsf -k -H hardware path
rmsf /dev/dsk/devicefiles
rmsf /dev/rdsk/devicefiles

I've rerun insf -e and ioscan and the devices are still there. Here's the ioscan -fn output for the entire 0/6 path. There are no devices currently attached to the 0/6 path.

ba 7 0/6 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Ad
apter (782)
ext_bus 5 0/6/0/0 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C87x Fast W
ide Differential
target 15 0/6/0/0.7 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
ctl 5 0/6/0/0.7.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE Initiator
/dev/rscsi/c5t7d0
target 16 0/6/0/0.8 tgt NO_HW DEVICE
target 17 0/6/0/0.9 tgt NO_HW DEVICE
target 18 0/6/0/0.10 tgt NO_HW DEVICE
target 19 0/6/0/0.11 tgt NO_HW DEVICE
target 20 0/6/0/0.12 tgt NO_HW DEVICE
target 21 0/6/0/0.13 tgt NO_HW DEVICE
target 22 0/6/0/0.14 tgt NO_HW DEVICE
target 23 0/6/0/0.15 tgt NO_HW DEVICE

If I specify ioscan -fnC disk it shows as clean. I was just wanting to cleanup the more general ioscan -fn listing without a reboot if possible, if not, I can get a reboot window later in the week.

Thanks for any help.

Gary

Hi Gary:

You need to reboot to allow the kernel to refresh its internal tables.

Regards!

...JRF...
