Hi,

I'm trying to install some patches and get the following error message:

ERROR: RPC exception: "Communications failure (dce / rpc)" 03/06/07
10:15:24 EST
ERROR: A Remote Procedure Call to a daemon has failed. Could not
start a management session for "qa-hp11:/". Make sure the
host is accessible from the network, and that its daemon,
swagentd, is running.
* Target connection failed for "qa-hp11:/".
ERROR: More information may be found in the daemon logfile on this
target (default location is qa-hp11:/var/adm/sw/swagentd.log).
* Selection had errors.

The server is accessible from the network...

swagentd is running....

What could be causing this..?

Thanks

PS: Server was just rebuild. I was getting the same error before the rebuild....

Hi,
anything extra in /var/adm/sw/swagentd.log ?
Is the patch format correct ?
As in:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1034710

Ensure your network config is correct (/etc/hosts,/etc/nsswitch.conf etc)
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1097174

Stop and re-start the swagent daemon.

Please also read:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33 on how to reward any useful answers given to your questions.

As Peter said, the log file is the place to check.

Restarting the swagentd has most of the times done the trick for me.

/usr/sbin/swagentd -r
