hi everybody,

today my unixsystem decided to boycot one of its disks. I don't know why, nothing has changed, no other errormessages were generated, just this one. When I start STM everything looks normal. The disk is not monitored when I check with monconfig. And yes, the versions of EMS and STM are old but they will be updated this weekend.
Is this very serious or can I ignore this?

Greetings,

Karin

>------------ Event Monitoring Service Event Notification ------------<

Notification Time: Tue Apr 10 09:11:15 2007

hpx2 sent Event Monitor notification information:

/storage/events/disks/default/1_0_4_0_0.8.0.255.0.1.0
is >= 3.
Its current value is CRITICAL(5).

Event data from monitor:

Event Time..........: Tue Apr 10 09:10:20 2007
Severity............: CRITICAL
Monitor.............: disk_em
Event #.............: 101
System..............:

Summary:
Disk at hardware path 1/0/4/0/0.8.0.255.0.1.0 : Device removed from
monitoring

Description of Error:

The device has been removed from the list of devices being monitored by
this monitor.

Probable Cause / Recommended Action:

The device was removed from the system, has stopped responding to the
system or it has been replaced with a device that is not supported by this
monitor.
Run ioscan to determine the state and type of the device.
Check the /var/stm/data/os_decode_xref for the information indicating
which devices are supported by this monitor.
Check other monitors to determine if they are now monitoring the
device by running /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig and using the "Check
monitoring" command.

Additional Event Data:
System IP Address...:
Event Id............: 0x461b385c00000002
Monitor Version.....: B.01.01
Event Class.........: I/O
Client Configuration File...........:
/var/stm/config/tools/monitor/default_disk_em.clcfg
Client Configuration File Version...: A.01.00
Qualification criteria met.
Number of events..: 1
Associated OS error log entry id(s):
None
Additional System Data:
System Model Number.............: 9000/800/rp7410
OS Version......................: B.11.11
STM Version.....................: A.52.00
EMS Version.....................: A.04.20
Latest information on this event:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/content/hardware/ems/disk_em.htm#101

v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v D E T A I L S v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v

Component Data:
Physical Device Path...: 1/0/4/0/0.8.0.255.0.1.0
Device Class...........: Disk
Inquiry Vendor ID......: HP 73.4G
Inquiry Product ID.....: ST373453FC
Firmware Version.......: HP05
Serial Number..........: 3HW09DJD

>---------- End Event Monitoring Service Event Notification ----------<

Karin,

I would just run ioscan on the disk like recommended, If nothing has changed on the system I would ignore it until you update EMS, if after the software was updated you keep on getting the same error, then I would start looking what's going on with the system.

Regards,

Jaime.

Hello,

all seems normal, it's strange than your disl have been unmonitored without action...

as has said Jaime, the best is to wait for upgrade and to keep a look on the events.

however, what's happen if you reconfigure ems to monitore this disk?

Regards,
Cedrick Gaillard

Hi Karin,

Actually, A.52.00 is not that old :-) . I would suggest either opening a support case with HP, or going ahead with the planned upgrade, and then opening a support call if the problem persists. This shouldn't happen, but I suspect that the cause may be hard to track down and will probably need HP support to investigate in detail.

It's serious in the sense that that particular disk is not being monitored, and that this behaviour is not supposed to happen.

Andrew

If you can still see the disk as CLAIMED via ioscan, and your data is intact and accessible, then I would not be to worried.

I would raise a call with HP to confirm root cause.

Regards,
Berd
