      <title>proftpd and shadow password file</title>

      <description>We are running HPUX 11.11 and just installed and converted to the Shadow Password file. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The problem I've run into is it seems that proftpd does not work with the shadow password.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;We are running ixProftpd:&lt;BR /&gt;/opt/iexpress/proftpd/sbin/proftpd -v&lt;BR /&gt; - ProFTPD Version 1.2.10&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;When we try to do an ftp to this host the login is failing:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;220 FTP Server Ready&lt;BR /&gt;User (osglbhp2:(none)): root&lt;BR /&gt;331 Password required for root.&lt;BR /&gt;Password:&lt;BR /&gt;530 Login incorrect.&lt;BR /&gt;Login failed.&lt;BR /&gt;ftp&amp;gt; by&lt;BR /&gt;221 Goodbye.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Any suggestions ??</description>

      <description>If root is is ftpusers file it can't login to the system. Check with another user to be sure .&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;regards,&lt;BR /&gt;ivan</description>

      <description>I assume that proftpd worked with user root before you converted to shadowed passwords. I rather doubt that the binary distribution was configured to work with shadowed passwords (as opposed to trusted). I would download the source and build it.</description>

      <description>We found that HP when they made the proftpd depot compiled without shadow support:&lt;BR /&gt;proftpd -V&lt;BR /&gt;  Features:&lt;BR /&gt;    - Autoshadow support&lt;BR /&gt;    - Shadow file suppport&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;We change the proftpd.conf file with:&lt;BR /&gt;   AuthPam  on&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and this allowed the ftp's to work again..&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
