you boot your system into single user mode and you can extend your file system

Following are the commands to extend a logical volume,

Unmount the file system,

lvextend -L 500 /dev/vg00/lvol6 ----> 500 referes the total size of the logical volume.

extendfs -F vxfs /dev/vg00/rlvol6 ----> logical volume name should follow with r ex rlvol6

using this you can't extend root file system root file system has so many steps to do it.
Why do you need to expand / - it's usually static. Have you any processes writing to it that should be writing to a logical volume on a non-os disc? One of the most common causes of / filling up is someone mistyping the name of a tape device and creating a large file in /dev: find /dev -type f -print

The only supported way of increasing / (if you still need to after checking the above) is to take an ignite backup and restore from it. When you restore you will have the option to resize filesystems.

Mark Syder (like the drink but spelt different)

If you have Online JFS, (swlist -l product |grep -i online) ... you can extend /usr
without umounting a file system and in system up and running.

hi,

The best way to extend the / and /usr is, take the ignite backup and do the ignite installation using the backup. During the installation u can customize the size all filesystems

Regards

Guru
