Guys,

I need to send mail messages thru an application running on 11i to an SNMP server. Unfortunately the application does not understand SNMP AUTH and the messages never reach their destination.
I am not really sure what version of sendmail I am using, but from the man page I gather this:
"This version of HP-UX sendmail originally came from sendmail 8.9.3."
I have read a bit about this but I am still confused on what to do.
What do I need to do on the sendmail side to sort this out?

Thanks in advance,

You certainly mean SMTP AUTH. SNMP has nothing to do with mail.

I did a Google search and found reference to Sendmail 8.11.1 on HP-UX supporting SMTP AUTH.

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:GVxsmiHC0X0J:docs.hp.com/en/5991-7531/5991-7531.pdf+Hp+sendmail+send+auth&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=us

(See page 14 and 15.)

I'm guessing the 8.13.3 release also has that functionality. Both can be found on the software.hp.com site by searching sor sendmail.

Shalom,

All sendmail functionality in HP-UX works almost exactly the same as stock sendmail. The version of sendmail you use will not effect this functionality.

For security reasons you should upgrade to the latest version of sendmail from HP.

Anything the HP doc doesn't cover can be found on http://www.sendmail.org

SEP

(Which 11i are you running? 11i v1, v2 or v3?)

(You probably mean SMTP, not SNMP, right?)

Your sendmail is equivalent to Sendmail 8.9.3.
Looks like only sendmail 8.10.0 or better will understand SMTP AUTH.

Go to http://software.hp.com and search for "sendmail". You should find the "Sendmail 8.13.3 Special Release Upgrade" for 11i v1 and v2.

Then read this:
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-6611/ch02s07.html#chbdcjej

It describes the /etc/mail/default-auth-info file, where you must put the authentication info.

MK

I have installed sendmail but as I could not find the
#O DefaultAuthInfo=/etc/mail/default-auth-info
line in the /etc/mail/sendmail.cf file
I decided to restart sendmail, well it came with this:
root @cpdabs01 > /sbin/init.d/sendmail start
Starting sendmail [ OK ]
Starting sm-client [FAILED]

For more information see /var/adm/syslog/mail.log

and this is the entry in mail.log:
Jun 7 12:12:44 cpdabs01 /sbin/init.d/sendmail[1933]: /etc/mail/submit.cf is missing

I cannot find that file anywhere and that FAILED does not look good either...

Any ideas?

Thanks,
