Dear Sir,

My environment is HP-UX 11.11, HPNP software is "J4189-11001C E.10.34 Hewlett-Packard JetDirect Printer Installer for Unix". My problem is how to enable Chinese output from lp?

Please see the attachment for detail , in the script I have changed from PERSONALTY="AUTO" to PERSONALTY="zh_CN.hp15CN". but it still doen't work. What is the right option?

Thanks in advance,

Stan Du

PERSONALITY should be left at AUTO in almost all cases. This variable does not control the language of the charcters but rather the printer control language such as PS (postscript) or PCL. You have to understand that the printer simply receives octets from the host computer. How those octets (or groups of octets) are actually displayed is determined by the character set. You need to study the printer's documentation to see how to select/load a character set.
Thanks Clay,

It is a pity that this version of software doesn't support the configuration of Asia Characgter output from the script. I remembered that some old ones support it.
Stan,

It should be possible, the key though is to selecting model script pcl4.nloo or pcl5.nloo depending on whether your printer supports PCL4 or PCL5. Most printers today support 5 and even 6, but I'm not aware of a script for 6. PCL5.nloo will upload an 'X' window asian font to the printer. The font is limited however to three sizes.

See knowledge base document emr_na-c01068504-1 for more details.
