Shalom,

Your server attempted to send mail to xyz.com

For any number of reasons the mail was rejected. Possibilities:

1) Lack of sending hostname that is fully qualified and can be resolved on the Internet.
2) Lack of Reverse lookup record.
3) Reverse lookup record that does not match the domain of the A record for the server.
4) Your server has been blocked manually due to a decision made by the mail administrator of xyz.com The decision does not have to be rational.

There are other possibilities as well but these are the big ones.

What is next is diagnostics. Take a look at the /var/adm/mail.log file and see if there is more information. Run some nslookups on the public internet and see about the A record and reverse lookup status of your server.

Normally in a corporate environment this is solved by using an designated relay server that meets all of the above anti-spam criteria. Normally you just set of a DS directive in sendmail.cf to relay through that server and let the relay server admin worry about the network infrastructure.

My recommendation is to talk to your networking and dns folks.

SEP
