>would be the timestamp of the files in our server be the same from their time and not the tz set given from our server?

There is only one time for everyone on most UNIX machines, seconds since the epoch. As SEP says, it is TZ that changes how the time is displayed.

Another issue with ftp is that on HP-UX, when a file is copied, the time changes to "now".

This may render your question meanless.

Hi All,

Has anyone been configured to set timezone for each ftpusers in hpux. For example my box located in singapore but the ftpusers were came from other countries and they wanted to see the tz on that machine to be set from where they are. Please advise if this is possible. Thanks!

Shalom,

timezone is a display setting. Its impact on ftp is limited to the date/time stamp on the file.

This is effected by the system's overall settings, not any user settings which are not read in ftp anyway.

To give users common settings, it is often GMT, Greenwich mean time set as the system timezone to give users a common frame of reference. As does ITRC for example.

SEP

Hi SEP,

Thanks for the clarification and one more thing if let say the ftpuser from other country uploaded their files from their machine to our server here would be the timestamp of the files in our server be the same from their time and not the tz set given from our server?
