Is anyone using an hp smart array 6400 RAID card on UNix? We have one in each nPar of our complex and it is not being used as a RAID card, instead it is being used an a very expensive SCIS controller. I want to use it as a RAID controller for the two hard disks and mirror them.
My question isis it difficult and where can I get documentation on how to set it up for a Unix environment.

Thanks

Shalom,

Yes, I've used such a card in the HP performance center. Though it has a standard looking SCSI connector on it, you can't hang a tape drive off it, you'll be needing a separate scsi card for that.

You really don't need documentation for it. It works just like a proliant server. You boot the box, you see a setup prompt for it, probably F8 you hit the function key and up comes the interface. I figured it out the first time I saw it.

Here is an attempt at getting you documentation.

http://docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90038/J6369-90038.pdf

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1153708

SEP

OK, Thanks!
Now, If I make an Ignite image of one nPar, configure the RAID card for 0+1 and re-ignite the image back to that nPar everything will be OK?

Thanks

I've never run an Ignite image against an npar. My understanding is this includes hardware configuration.

So it should work. I'd test it in a DR test prior to relying on it.

SEP

That's what we're going to do is test in on the nPar we use for RnD purposes.

Thanks
