How to apply 11.23 patch bundles??

I have used SupportPlus on hpux 11.11 for many years. Now I need to patch an 11.23 system but I understand there is no longer support plus created for it?

I am currently on Sep. 2006 and I recently order June 2007. The DVD arrived, but it seems to be the entire o/s though, I just wanted the patch bundle.

Can someone point me to the correct steps?

Shalom,

easy:

stick the DVD in the DVD drive.

swinstall -i

Interactive interface comes up, tell the menu to find a CD. Then you can select and install.

harder:
Find a way to mount the DVD with the mount command, you don't need any options for an HP DVD.

swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x reinstall=false -s \*

Before you do either, do an Ignite make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery so if something goes wrong you can restore your system.

You can find, and download, the HP-UX patch bundles here:

Once you have them you use swinstall to install them as usual.

Download is better.

The website and the DVD contain the bi-annual patch bundle, a hardware enable bundle and a standard bundle.

For a stable system, you need to install all three.

As mentioned above, you have several options.

- download the patch bundles from http://www.itrc.com

- mount the install DVD
the bundles are located on this disks, swlist output:

It may be a good idea to not only install the patch bundles.

For installing the patchbundles only, I would go with the answer of Torsten : Look for the bundles he has specified on your DVD and select them for installation.

But not everything is fixed with patches. The DVD also contains newer drivers (for network cards, SCSI, FC, ...) and newer software versions. I driver is rarely patched, more commonly a newer driver is released.
The same is true for a lot of other software modules like diagnostics software, WBEM modules, Resource management, CIFS, ...

I would read the release notes (What's new section) and decide what software to install.

New drivers often will bring new fixes, features ... a good example is the RAID-01 driver.

The Software Assistant (SWA) tool can also identify and download updates for the Quality Pack bundles. You can think of it as a hybrid of the ITRC Patch Database and the Security Patch Check tool.
