growisofs problems

Hello to all,

I'm trying to record a DVD in a rx6600 with _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A in /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0, but I got the error:

:-( FAIL: command failed with SCTL_INVALID_REQUEST.
:-( unable to GET CONFIGURATION: I/O error
:-( non-MMC unit?

I was reading some threads about DVD+R/DVD-R compatibility, is it true?

Demerson,

You need to burn media on these systems using an external non-USB DVD+RW drive.

This is due to differences in the architecture of the itanium systems.

My experience says on HP provided drives only R+ media or RW+ media will work.

Non HP provided DVD drives will probably not work at all.

I'm more of a mkisofs+cdrecord user, but I
would interpret those complaints as rather
severe I/O problems, not a DVD medium
incompatibility. ("Can't talk to the gizmo"
is different from "wrong medium type".)

Can we assume that you can do easy things
with this drive, like mount and read a normal
DVD?

Have you tried a different writing program
(for example, cdrecord), and does it also
fail?

Someone who knows something about growisofs
might be interested in seeing the actual
command which led to these messages.

Is _what_ true? ("It" is true for some
values of "it".)
