> When i login via my console

What is your console? What is the system?

> i get asked to supply the system password.

What does this mean? What is a "system
password"? What did you do, exactly?

> when i supply the password for root it
> tells me it is invalid.

As usual, an actual transcript showing what
happened might save everyone a lot of time
and trouble.

> [...] when i login as a user then su to
> root [...]

Did you do this at the console, too, or
somewhere else?
