As a work around to get rid of these events you can follow the following steps.

Take a backup of chasis logs and delete all of them and restart event monitor using monconfig.
This will resolve the issue for now till the time HP release a fix for this.

Have a new rp3440 with one power supply. Using HP-UX 11iv1 as OS. Daily, we are getting an EMS alert that the number of Power supplies has gone from N+1(redundant) to N (non-redundant). I do not have redundant Power supplies, never did to my knowledge. How do I get this message to stop. I have tried the monconfig, but not sure which option to use to stop this. Part of message:

Client Configuration File...........:
/var/stm/config/tools/monitor/default_ia64_corehw.clcfg
Client Configuration File Version...: A.01.00
Qualification criteria met.
Number of events..: 1
Associated OS error log entry id(s):
None

Anyone familiar with this that can help me?

Thanks, Leslie.

Hi Leslie,

This is a known problem which is currently under investigation by HP; the message should only be seen once, when the OnlineDiags start up, but for some reason it is repeated (at this stage it's not clear if the defect is in the firmware or the monitor).

There is a work-around, which is to suppress the event by modifying the default_ia64_corehw.clcfg (change the TRUE in the entry for 104011 to FALSE). If you ever do install redundant PSUs, re-enable the event. Once the change is made, you don't need to restart the monitor for it to take effect.

You could also open a support call with HP, this would help by providing more data for them to work with on this problem.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, but I did open a case. Case Number 3600411678. I did not get as much infomation as I did from you. I felt like I got blew off so that's why I came to the forum.

I will try this and let you know. No sure how to get EMS to run a diag manually. I know it does this automatically at 4am.

Leslie

Hi Leslie,
You don't need to do anything to EMS, the monitor is running continually, it's just that the event is suppressed for 24 hours after it's been reported, which is why it happens once a day at the same time.

There is another way to stop the event, which is removing the file /var/stm/logs/monitor/remindersel.dat. This is also completely safe.

Andrew

Mridul, I must disagree. There is no need to remove the chassis logs. That is not the cause of this problem. Anyway, the rp3440 doesn't have chassis logs as such; it does have FPL and SEL.

There is a different problem that leads to the reporting of old events by ia64_corehw or fpl_em, but that is not what is being seen here. That problem is fixed in the current release of OnlineDiags, and doesn't manifest itself regularly.

Andrew
