getting installed codewords

Dear all,

Please let me know how can I retrieve the installed codewords from an HPUX11iV2 machine..

I am not able to see var/adm/sw/.codewords file..

Bonjour Rajeesh,

As far as I know /var/adm/sw/.codewords is the only location where codewords are stored.

May be products have been installed from an other server where the .codewords file reside ?

HP enginners have also unprotected Applications CD. Software might have been installed by HP ?

Finally, wich version of HP-UX are you running : Foundation, Enterprise or Mission Critical (see swlist) ? The last one includes many sub-systems like Miror, On Line JFS, MC/ServiceGuard and you will not find codewords for them.

As root
cd /var/adm/sw
ls -lart

If its not there it needs to be restored or the codewords need to be re-entered.

I am using HPux 11iV2 FOE,

the machine is factory installed by HP, and I want to reinstall it..

Now how can I get the codewords.. hp can give it?

Rajeesh,

If the system has been factory installed you should have received a "Codeword form". Can you find it ?

If not, you can find already generated codewords at ITRC site if you have one of these informations : Customer Identifier or License Number or Certificate ID. See SLM (Software License Manager) at http://licensing.hp.com/site=ITRC

You can also contact HP at "http://licensing.hp.com/slm/showAssistanceForm.slm". May be they will be able to find some usefull information trhough the serial number of the box : getconf CS_MACHINE_SERIAL

I don't think that Order Number will give you acess straight to codewords. But it is an important information in HP's command process. So this information + Serial Number can give you strong chances to solve your question if you contact HP at the link given in a previous post.

Other usefull informations : Service Agrement ID (like 9999 9999 9999) or System Handle (like AAAAA-BBBBB-99 : AAAAA 5 first letters of client's name, BBBBB 5 first letters of client's town, 99 is a number). I f you have those informations, try at http://licensing.hp.com/showLruxUsbForm.slm
