Hi sajjad,
You have to increase the volume space first. You have no enough free space to increase the logical volume. Add pv to your vg00.
Davis Paul
Hi sajjad

The space you calculated in vgdisplay, you have 731 PE available

731X16 = 11696 MB / 2 =5848 MB available. Because your internal disk is mirrored and you got the total disk available in both HDD.

so you can extend upto 5848 MB

Is this logical volume mirrored ? if yes then you must have those no. of extents on both the disk by which you want to extend the LV.
If no. of PEs are less on one of the disk it will fail.

if you need 9 MB , why you enter in lvcreate -L 9232?

you must enter lvcreate -L 9 instead 9232.

you entered -L 9232 is 9 GB.

dear Ahsan
please understand my question

I have currently 9218 MB space ok
I am planning to increase this value to 9225 ok
lvextend -L 9225 /dev/vg00/lvol8
then what is the wrong
this is new value of logical volume
if i want to increase this space i have to adde this space +current one.
You can not extend this LV , here are the reasons.

1. lvol8 is mirrored across both the disks and There is no free PE on one of the disk.See the underlined disk below. That is the reason ur getting "strict allocation policy error."

Physical volumes ---
PV Name /dev/dsk/c0t6d0
---------------------
PV Status available
Total PE 4374
Free PE 0
----------
Autoswitch On
Proactive Polling On

PV Name /dev/dsk/c3t6d0
PV Status available
Total PE 4374
Free PE 731
Autoswitch On
Proactive Polling On

3. U have created "/dev/vg00/lvol9" and /dev/vg00/u01 without mirroring and it is used the available space from both the disks.

4. The only way to extend the lvol8 is to remove the mirror and extend,But it is not adviceble since u will lose alternative disk(one will be without lvol8)

This lvol8 can not be extended since there is not enough space available on both the disk on which this LV is mirrored.

Moreover the disk space has been utilised by the lvol9 and u01, see the below o/p's:

LV Name /dev/vg00/lvol9
LV Status available/syncd
LV Size (Mbytes) 25600
Current LE 1600
Allocated PE 1600
Used PV 1

LV Name /dev/vg00/u01
LV Status available/syncd
LV Size (Mbytes) 25008
Current LE 1563
Allocated PE 1563
Used PV 2

These lvols are not mirrored so considering current scenario, u can not extend it without making some changes in LV or u need to add one more disk to this vg.

May be u can think of relocating the PEs assigned to u01 since it is using PEs from both the disks but to do that as well u have to take the data backup , since that will destroy the data and u have to create newfs and restore the data.
