Hola,

I have the following

Machine: K460
OS: hp 11
Interface: GSC add-on Fast/Wide SCSI Interface
DLT: Tandberg DLT8000

I cannot get the machine to recognise the DLT. I have tried adding driver entries to the /stand/build/system file and rebuilding kernel. I have two questions. I have also applied necessary patches.

1. Which driver should be running this DLT device
2. Can I still edit the system file and get the kernel to attach driver at certain hw addr, esp in hp11 they use commands to manage kernel.

Hi,

you should have "stape" enabled/configured into the kernel. Also can you post yout ioscan output "ioscan -fn".

Check the SCSI ID of your DLT, what does it say? Also, is the DLT turned on? Next, can you provide a:

ioscan -fn -H 8/8

As ioscan displays *nothing* for any address on this interface, i.e. not even a "Description" for the DLT drive, you have some kind of hardware problem.

Termination? Cable? Right *type* of SCSI? Etc., etc..

Only if/when you get a "Description" from ioscan, it is time to look from drivers, etc..

I have seen previously that there is no desc for the device but when using system file from /stand, that device is seen by machines?

(As I wrote,) What about the *type* of SCSI?

Our Fast/Wide interfaces are not only Fast and Wide, but also *Differential*. Many peripherals, especially those (also) intended for PCs, are Fast Wide *Single-Ended*. A Single-Ended peripheral can not be used on a Differential bus.

So check the specs of the *drive* for the type of SCSI, i.e. Fast or Slow *and* Wide or Narrow *and* Differential or Single-Ended. *And* *if* Differential, whether it is 'plain' differential or Low Voltage Differential.

So you see: SCSI is not equal to SCSI! :-(

It would seem the problem is the type of scsi as noted.

Interface card is Fast Wired differential

and

DLT is Fast Wired Single Ended.

So another question, is there any way I can add this DLT to this machine, like with some conversion cable/box or something?

I know on my K460 I also hooked up a DLT8000. I nneded to have a specail HSC SCSI card that was installed on the server in order for the drive to be recognized. Are you hooking this DLT8K to an HSC SCSI card? Part number A2969A. If you aren't hooking it up to this type of card it will not recognize.
