I have a HP9000 (D230) with HP-UX 10.20 and I installed Samba Server version 2.0.6 (1999 release) for this OS.

In the Windows network I can view my Server resources from Windows 2000 and XP but, under Windows Vista, I can't.

I've tried to change my Network autentication method that I found in the text...

http://www.builderau.com.au/blogs/codemonkeybusiness/viewblogpost.htm?p=339270746

Is there any solution to solve this incompatibility?
Is there some version of Samba that I can instal in the HP-UX more compatible with HP-UX 10.20?

Shalom,

You can go to samba.org download the source and attempt to compile samba 3.0.x on your 10.20 system.

This system's OS is nearly 5 years out of support and your mileage may vary. I can not say that this approach will succeed, but it may.

I believe Vista lacks backward compatibility for Samba 2.0 and is the real source of the problem.

SEP

Actually, I didn't get Vista to browse Samba shares using v.3.0.28 on SLES 10 so I don't know that it has anything to do with the version of Samba you're running. We can access the shares directly with URIs so I didn't pursue the reason browsing didn't work. I'll be interested to see if anyone knows the answer to this.

I've recently encountered a similar issue.

Vista clients couldn't connect to a samba server while XP clients had no problems. None of the tips 'n tricks found online worked.

After hovering around the network in question with the laptop, I found that Vista clients really, really (really!) need port 445 (microsoft-ds) listening on the samba server.

In our case, a firewall was allowing samba by allowing ports 137, 138 and 139, which worked fine for XP but failed consistently on Vista.

I don't know if this will apply to your situation but I thought I'd mention it.

Cheers,
Wout
