Look for a TMOUT environment varialbe.

echo $TMOUT

If the value is greater than 0 then that is the number of seconds that the shell will wait for a command, after which it will time out.

If you wish to disable this do either:

unset TMOUT

or

export TMOUT=0

(Note -- this is assuming the standard /usr/bin/sh or /sbin/sh shell)

I'm working on a customer site and trying to to create a db, and the installer goes for a while then bombs out on me because my shell dies.

The customer set a feature that kills the shell when inactive after a period of time.

Where would I look to disable this feature temporarily?
