Hi,

You mean to say only mount point not the logical volume i guess....
If its then its simple. crate new directory with new mount point name and then mount lvol on that directory.

#mkdir <NEW_MT_PT>
#mount <LVOL> <NEW_MT_PT>

Only thing here is you need to unmount that lvol which makes data unavailable for that period of time.</NEW_MT_PT></LVOL></NEW_MT_PT>

mount point rename may affect in absolute file path in oracle flat files search area.

that means any oracle flat file location that are set in oracle parameter file may be changed accordingly.

Hi,

I mean to say it wont change or harm your data residing on that lvol.

But yes, as you are changing mount point i.e. there is change is path so, it have to have reflected in configuration or so in Oracle wherever it is needed.

So, bottom line is "there is NO data Loss or lateration" during rename but renaming should be reflected in application where path varibles comes into picture.

-=ShRi=-

Rename process will remain the same. Only thing is that you need to care about oracle data.
I dont wish to comment on it holding with little knowledge about oracle. Maybe other olympian or expert out here will help you and guide you for what all changes required under Oracle to reflect this name change.

Best Luck.

Hi,

when changing the mount point you have to change all scripts that include /u07 to /u7.
You could use both mount points for a while, but you have to take care then, that no file is used from both mount points at one moment!
I believe you have to configure your oracle when you want to change the mount pt.

Just some thoughts
Volkmar
Hi again,

ok - but this you can't do during a running oracle session ...
You can:
- stop oracle
- stop all processes handling files of /u07
(check with 'ps -ef|grep /u07')
- copy /u07 to anything, like /u7
- umount /u07
- rename /u7 to /u07
- start oracle
- test everything

If you don't know exactly the oracle procedures you also could shutdown your server, boot into single user mode, mount the log vol of /u07 to /u7, copy everything from /u7 to /u07, continue booting, check everything.

HTH
V.
