Issue with Connect Direct Issue: Failed to obtain connection to Connect:Direct server, exiting.

Hi,

I had changed the UID for the connect Direct user ,but since then i am getting two issue.

1) I cannot start the Connect Direct Services with the connect direct user, need to start it with root user only.

2) Also getting the below error.

I don't have CD but I would think for #1 you also need to change the owner of the CD software to the new UID. For #2 once you fix #1 it may start working again or the CD server somehow needs to know about the new ID.

One more thing. When you start some software using the root account, it may create config files or log files that are owned by root. So the next time you run it as a regular user you will get errors. So look within the CD installation area and if you find files that are owned by root, see if they need to be changed to the CD user.

Thanks for the response.

As per your suggestion I have checked the user id on the files, and can confirm that the change has been successsfully applied to all the files.

But to confirm I have not changed the user,only changed the UID for the user.
user:- CDUSER
Original UID:- 500
New UID:- 8722

I did not change the group on the user.
After this when I ran the initialisation program I am getting the issue.

I am initializing with the below command:
/home/cduser/ndm/bin/cdpmgr -i /home/cduser/ndm/cfg/MYUKSLLDECD001/initparm.cfg

Also you have suggested it needs to change the owner of the CD Software to the new UID,
Could you please provide the location or file where we need to put the changes.

What does "ll -d /home/cduser" show for user owner? Similarly what does "ll /home/cduser" show? And all files under it? It should be cduser and NOT 500.

All these files are as they were before changing the UID.

The owner looks OK except some files are owned by "prod", "cddialer", "cdglextr". I don't know if this is normal. You should go further and check all subdirectories with "ll -R /home/cduser". As I said in my first reply, I do not have CD, I was pointing out possible issues when changing the UID of installed software.

You may consider deleting or formally removing the CD software if they have a remove tool and reinstall it from scratch.

I had logged a case with the Sterling and they too said to reinstall connect direct.
So I guess there is no way we can change the UID of a user without impacting the connect direct.

Response from Sterling:

- delete the CD Unix installation;
- set the UID as you wish it to be for the installation user;
- install Connect Direct Unix 3.8 with the new settings

This was the option for me, due to the timeframe. might be Sterling can provide a solution on this if you have got time to Investigate and do some testing.

Hence opted the above option and reinstalled connect direct.
