Well on we go with your adventure into installing Integrity blades - overall I think we can say that you were completely un-prepared for this journey, and you should feed that back to your boss. Installing and implementing blade systems can at the outset be much more complex than standalone systems - that's because so much of the config is designed to be lights-out configured through automated processes like ignite / rdp etc.

Also installing blades is a multi-disciplinary task in that knowing about HP-UX is not enough (as you've already found out).

Now you need to get networking configured - in this case your Cisco switch. This isn't a dumb little managed switch like you might buy for your home from the local electronics store, its a fully fledged managed cisco catalyst switch running IOS. Just plugging cables into it won't work - it needs to be configured - and if you want to attach it to your existing corporate LAN you need to ensure its configured in-line with the other switches in your environment (same VLANs, routing protocols etc.)

I'm guessing you have a 3020 rather than a 3120 , so a good starting point would be here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/blades/3020/hardware/quick/guide/3020GSG2.html

If it is the 3120 start here instead:

http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01430321/c01430321.pdf

And if you need to attach it to your corporate LAN I'd think very hard about getting one of your networking colleagues involved to help you configure the switch (breaking whole networks is pretty easy when attaching badly configured switches).

In fact consider stopping your whole install process and spend your day reading the relevant installation documentation for all your blade components here:

http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/316682-0-0-0-121.html

HTH

Duncan

Hello,

a) It is obvious that only one LAN cards is
configured - lan0 at IP address 10.3.93.100.

b) here is something that I have seen
on many projects. HP-UX 11.31 server
was built with Bastille at DMZ level.

What does this command say:

# bastille -l

If the network cabling is OK and it is not
the swithc issue, then I am willing to
bet that your Bastille setup is too strict.
When Bastille is set to DMZ level, then
you cannot ping the HP-UX server or
telnet, or ssh...

To "udo" the Bastille setup for the moment,
you can just do the following:

# bastille -r

I do not have the HP-UX server in front of
me at the moment (I am teaching HP-UX SNA I
so I am having a coffee break), but I guess
bastille is in
/opt/sec_mgmt/bastille/bin directory...

Cheers,

VK2COT
