Installation Error 11.23

This is a new box... rp3410

I was trying to install HP-UX 11.23 and received the following error :-

* Bringing up Network (lan0)
ERROR: The ifconfig(1M) command (ifconfig lan0 inet 10.3.90.98 netmask
10.3.90.1 up) failed to enable the lan0 interface (return value: 1).
Check that the system's networking hardware is functioning and
properly connected.

Looks like you need to supply a valid value for netmask in the network section of the installer.

Your netmask is incorrect.

ifconfig lan0 inet 10.3.90.98 netmask
10.3.90.1 up

looks like you are giving the GW of your network as your netmask.

Your command is wrong:

fconfig lan0 inet 10.3.90.98 netmask
10.3.90.1 up

I guess 10.3.90.1 is your gateway, but it is not a valid netmask (e.g. 255.255.255.0).

And so I did something like this

I am getting "IPv6 Routing tables" .. I donot know how to remove it

I have 11.31 on this PA-RISC Server.. And I need to install 11.23 on this and while doing that it is not recognizing lan0 and so I have this issue

It's not clear to me - do you run now 11.23 or 11.31?

Was the installation successful?

Are you sure about your netmask (255.0.0.0)?

Do you have more than 1 NIC?

Check with

# lanscan

I currently have HP-UX 11.31[Factory Installed] and we need HP-UX 11.23 on it.

The installation is not yet successful...

looks like I have only 1 NIC card on this server.

With all this when I try to install HP-UX 11.23 I receive the error :-
ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCSIFNETMASK): bad value
ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCSIFNETMASK): bad value

and it takes me back to the network configuration menu..

So what are you putting in for the netmask?

The error is telling you that it does NOT like your SUBNET MASK value. Talk to your network team and get the CORRECT subnet mask value.

You are running 11.31, but get the error on 11.23?

Do you have 2 disks to boot from?

Anyway, check

/etc/rc.config.d/netconf

for the mask.

Is it still 10.3.90.1?

This is not a mask!

If you have both OS versions on this server, why not compare the config?

On 11.31 do

# ifconfig lan0

or

# nwmgr -v -I 0 -S igelan

I think I was not very clear... Let me tell you the exact seen here :-

I've recently received a PA-Risc Server from HP with Hp-UX 11.31 installed on it...

For some reason the customer dosen't like hp-ux 11.31 and instead he wanted me to install HP-UX 11.23 on it thereby erasing the current OS on it.

And so when I was trying to install 11.23 on it I receive the error:-

ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCSIFNETMASK): bad value

I do not have two different OS running on this server.

Check if there is a cable!

Where is a cable connected? On the MP (only)?

Regarding the mask problem - you need to use a valid mask!

Issue was resolved after replacing the cable...
