Problem in direct login.

Hi Gurus,

I am trying to login in my server by using root id & password but i am unable to logeed in, but i am able to switch to root user with same id & passwd.....Yesterday i have chnaged root passwd with some strong passwd.

Kindly help.

hello,

are you using telnet/ssh, "is direct root login" allowed in your Server,

looks to me "that direct root login" not allowed,

Check if your Server /etc/securetty root user allowed

Hi,

I am using telnet....

and we don't have chnaged in securetty. It's empty.

what does your /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file shows..?

is your server trusted.?

can you Check your root account has been disabled..?

/usr/lbin/getprpw -l root
(look for lockout =101000)--> meaning ur root account locked

/usr/lbin/modprpw -k root --> to enable your account

also can please give more light to your question and explains how you have manged to login..?

looks like you may have "enter" unacepatble character in the passwd field.?

From the "passwd" man page:

WARNINGS
Avoid password characters which have special meaning to the tty driver, such as # (erase) and @ (kill). You may not be able to login with these characters.
