    <description>the earlier post syntax has to be modified a bit.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;ulimit - &lt;NEW_VALUE&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;there shall be no "=" as ststed before &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;time(seconds)  -- use -t option    &lt;BR /&gt;file(blocks)     ---- use -f option   &lt;BR /&gt;data(kbytes)     -- use -d option   &lt;BR /&gt;stack(kbytes)   -- use -s option     &lt;BR /&gt;memory(kbytes)  -- use -m option    &lt;BR /&gt;coredump(blocks)   -- use -c option &lt;BR /&gt;nofiles(descriptors)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Sujit&lt;/NEW_VALUE&gt;</description>

      <description>hi,&lt;BR /&gt;     i have hpux  box with 11.31. my current limits are like this:&lt;BR /&gt;# csh&lt;BR /&gt;# limit&lt;BR /&gt;cputime         unlimited&lt;BR /&gt;filesize        unlimited&lt;BR /&gt;datasize        1048576 kbytes&lt;BR /&gt;stacksize       8192 kbytes&lt;BR /&gt;coredumpsize    2097151 kbytes&lt;BR /&gt;descriptors     4096 files&lt;BR /&gt;memoryuse       unlimited&lt;BR /&gt;#&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;how do i change these values?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;thanks in advance,&lt;BR /&gt;shanmugam.</description>

      <description>Hi Shanmugam,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;yes the changes are gone after the system is rebooted.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;However as u want to set this permanent u can put these as commands in /etc/profile --- to set it globally for the system or in a particular users profile say for oracle user put this in the /home/oracle/.profile.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;the following thread as from a guru JRFergusson tells the same.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;A href="http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1034841&amp;amp;admit=109447626+1230807584456+28353475" target="_blank"&gt;http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1034841&amp;amp;admit=109447626+1230807584456+28353475&lt;/A&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;regards &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Sujit</description>

      <description>Which values do you want to change?  A user can only make them smaller.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&amp;gt;Is there any file for making the changes as permanent?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You can make them smaller by putting them in your .profile.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;As Sujit mentions, if you want to make some of these larger, you must use kctune(1m) to change the kernel configuration.</description>
