User id starting with numeric

Hi,

Can someone tell me the implications if we create user id's starting with numeric ?

It is understood that useradd or SAM will not allow you to create it. But if we have modify the passwd file manually.

we have a requirement to create that kind of users..

Short answer is you need to be on the Sept 08 release of 11iv3 to get this support. There are details in the release notes here:

And the package can be downloaded from here:

Prior to that it is *not* supported, so don't try it.

If the username is numeric first is searched as a UID, not a NAME.

Mine is 11.11 and I would like to know, will it be any misbehaviour if the user id starting with numeric ?

Shall I go ahead and create user like this?

State stated repeatedly...NO. Its not going to work, and will potentially cause problems.

Yikes, did you even take a minute to read the document Ivan cited? If you had, you would have had your answer. Look at the commands impacted by this change!
