I got involved in hosts that have been previously managed. I did an "ioscan -funC fc" and it did not return anything. The host is an rp3440. Is there a fiber card that is not of type fc?

Hi!!

# ioscan -funC fc

should give you an output something like this:

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
===================================================================
fc 0 0/0/10/1/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td0
fc 1 1/0/8/1/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td1

If not, then you do not have a fiber card installed.

The way I see it anyway...

HTH

Ron

Oh...I read it again. How do you 'see' the fc card? If you can physically eyeball it, it should have a part # stamped on it. Could you please post that?

And, can you post the output of # ioscan -fn

That gives everything but the kitchen sink.

The AD332 is a Gigabit NETWORK card that uses a FIBRE cable to attach to the switch.

This is **NOT** a Fibre Channel card that you would use to access a SAN.
Hi,

I also go with Patrick. It is a lan card which uses fibre connection to connect to the switch. Look at the ioscan output and see the class field(the first field) and the driver field(fourth field)

>>>
lan 2 0/3/1/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AD332-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-SX Adapter

lan 1 0/4/1/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AD332-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-SX Adapter
>>>

Since class of these devices is lan, it should not list in #ioscan -fnC fc. but it should be listed in #ioscan -fnC lan

fc class devices will have the driver of "td"

Hope this clarify your doubts..

And the key in the card description itself is:

"1000Base-SX".

A 'Base-SX' card uses fibre connections.

A 'Base-T' card uses regular LAN cable (Cat 5/5e/6) connections.

I was slightly confused in my first response. Sorry about that!
